Effective workplace communication is essential for
maintaining productivity and fostering collaboration among
employees. Managers must 26 clear expectations and
provide constructive feedback to ensure that tasks are completed
efficiently. Poor communication can leave team members 27
and uncertain about their responsibilities, which may result in
delays and misunderstandings. In many organizations, digital
tools are used to facilitate communication, but relying solely
28 technology may reduce personal interaction and trust
among colleagues. Therefore, companies should promote both

The teddy bear is often treated as a charming toy with a simple
origin, 31 its beginnings involved political image-making,
commercial opportunism, and public sentiment. In 1902,
President Theodore Roosevelt joined a hunting trip in Mississippi.
During the expedition, guides cornered and restrained a black bear
and expected Roosevelt to shoot it, but he refused because he
considered the act 32 . The incident gained national attention
after cartoonist Clifford Berryman portrayed Roosevelt as
principled rather than hesitant. As a result, the cartoon became
more memorable than the actual hunt. Inspired by the publicity,
Brooklyn shopkeepers Morris and Rose Michtom created a
stuffed bear called “Teddy’s Bear.” Its success depended not only
on craftsmanship but also on its connection to a 33 recognized
public story. 34 the cartoon’s popularity, the toy would
probably have disappeared quickly. Instead, it spread rapidly
through American culture, supported by a public already attracted
to sentimental symbols. In this sense, the teddy bear was not
simply invented; it was culturally 35 .

ΙV. Reading Comprehension
When you picture the tech industry, you probably think of
things that don’t exist in physical space, such as the apps and
internet browser on your phone. But the infrastructure required to
store all this information consumes massive amounts of energy.
Despite its name, the infrastructure used by the “cloud” accounts
for more global greenhouse emissions than commercial flights. In
2018, for instance, the 5 billion YouTube hits for the viral song
Despacito used the same amount of energy it would take to heat
40,000 US homes annually.
Large language models such as ChatGPT are some of the most
energy-guzzling technologies of all. Research suggests, for
instance, that about 700,000 liters of water could have been used
to cool the machines that trained ChatGPT-3 at Microsoft’s data
facilities. The industry’s environmental impact is a major concern,
yet the companies that produce such models have stayed
remarkably quiet about the amount of energy they consume –
probably because they don’t want to spark our caution.
Moreover, when significant energy resources are allocated to
tech-related endeavors, it can lead to energy shortages for
essential needs such as residential power supply. Recent data from
the UK shows that the country’s electricity network is holding
back affordable housing projects. In addition, while minerals such
as lithium and cobalt are most commonly associated with batteries
in the motor sector, they are also crucial for the batteries used in
data centers. The extraction process often involves significant
water usage and can lead to pollution, undermining water security.
In grappling with the intersection of technological
advancement and environmental sustainability, policymakers are
facing the challenge of cultivating less extractive business models.
Moreover, the approach should eschew outdated top-down
methods in favour of flexible strategies that integrate knowledge
at all levels, from local to global. Only by adopting a holistic
perspective can we effectively mitigate the significant environmental
impacts of the tech industry.
36. What is the main idea of this essay?
(A) The tech industry has become the largest environmental
concern.
(B) Digital infrastructure has significant but often overlooked
consequences.
(C) Environmental costs of technology are secondary to its
social benefits.
(D) The environmental impact of technology is largely
stressed by the tech industry.
37. What problem is mentioned in relation to the UK electricity
network?
(A) It depends on renewable energy sources too much.
(B) It is overloaded by international data traffic.
(C) It cannot support affordable housing development.
(D) It lacks sufficient digital infrastructure innovation.
38. Why do companies remain silent about energy consumption?
(A) To focus public concern on environmental impact.
(B) To refuse grants on energy consumption.
(C) To concentrate attention on their energy usage.
(D) To avoid raising public awareness of environmental costs.
39. What environmental issue is linked to mineral extraction?
(A) Water pollution and large water consumption.
(B) Increased electronic waste production.
(C) Loss of biodiversity in urban areas.
(D) Overreliance on renewable energy sources.
William Gibson’s Neuromancer is important to modern
cyberpunk not simply because it appeared early, but because it
gave the genre one of its most influential frameworks. Published
in 1984, the novel helped turn cyberpunk from an emerging trend
into a recognizable movement within science fiction. It portrayed
a world shaped by global corporations, urban decay, invasive
technology, and skilled outsiders operating beyond respectable
institutions. It also popularized “cyberspace” as a literary space
that human consciousness could enter, providing later writers,
filmmakers, and game designers with a language for virtual
experience. Its influence remains strong because Neuromancer
did not present technology as purely liberating or purely
destructive. Instead, it imagined high-tech life as seductive,
unstable, unequal, and closely tied to power. This balance became
central to later cyberpunk: the blend of glamour and decay, speed
and alienation, technical brilliance and moral ambiguity.
Although modern cyberpunk works differ in setting and politics,
many still reflect Gibson’s idea that digital systems do not exist
outside society but intensify the structures already within it. For
this reason, Neuromancer remains important not as a relic, but as
a template that expanded cyberpunk’s possibilities.
40. What helped turn cyberpunk into a recognizable movement
within science fiction?
(A) The rise of video games
(B) The publication of Neuromancer
(C) The decline of fantasy fiction
(D) The popularity of comic books
41. According to the passage, what did Neuromancer popularize?
(A) Artificial intelligence
(B) Cyberspace as a literary concept
(C) Virtual reality gaming
(D) International science fiction awards
42. Why does the author say Neuromancer remains influential?
(A) It predicted modern technology accurately.
(B) It was the first science fiction novel about computers.
(C) It presented technology in a complex and balanced way.
(D) It focused mainly on scientific realism.
43. What does the phrase “digital systems do not exist outside
society” most likely mean?
(A) Technology develops independently from culture.
(B) Technology reflects and strengthens existing social structures.
(C) Digital technology replaces traditional social systems.
(D) Most people cannot fully escape digital systems.
44. Why does the author describe Neuromancer as a “template”?
(A) It followed the conventions of older science fiction closely.
(B) It limited the future direction of cyberpunk literature.
(C) It became more famous than any later cyberpunk work.
(D) It established ideas that later cyberpunk works continued
to develop
