2. 一項 44 國研究(Charles & Bradley, 2009)，使用 1995-1999 年間的國際數學與科學趨勢調查(TIMSS, Trends of International Math and Science Survey)，研究大專院校學生科系就讀的性別差異，該研究將主要的科系領域分為(1)工程(engineering)、(2)數學與自然科學(mathematics and natural sciences)、(3)人文與社會科學(humanities and social sciences)、以及(4)健康醫療與其他(health/other)等四大領域。該研究發現，在越工業化、越富裕的國家(GDP per capita 越高)，女性就讀工程或數學與自然科學相關科系的比例越低，且就讀人文與社會科學或健康等相關科系的比例越高。請選擇一些社會學觀點與社會趨勢來解釋這樣的觀察。
