Your essay can address, but is not limited to answering, any of the following questions: Do you agree with Tocqueville that "certain predominant ideas" are fundamental to a prosperous society? Why or why not? How might Tocqueville's emphasis on "common action" and "predominant ideas" run counter to the value of self-reliance and individual freedom that is usually advocated in democracy? I. Critical Thinking and Writing: 30%In November 2024, a branch chief of a labor ministry agency in Taiwan was dismissed following public outcry over the ministry’s handling of a worker’s suicide. The worker, who had previously reported being a victim of workplace bullying, tragically ended his life. Investigations revealed that the ministry had failed to take appropriate action when the worker’s complaints were first filed. This negligence sparked widespread criticism, drawing attention to the prevalence of workplace bullying in Taiwan and the lack of sufficient measures to address it. The incident has reignited discussions about the responsibilities of employers and government agencies in protecting workers from harassment and creating a safe working environment. Experts and advocates are calling for stricter enforcement of antibullying regulations, better support for victims, and increased accountability for those who fail to act on complaints. This case highlights the urgent need for systemic changes to address workplace bullying. Workplace bullying may have serious consequences for individuals and organizations. Based on the case described, discuss the responsibilities of employers and government agencies in preventing and addressing bullying in the workplace. What steps can be taken to ensure workers feel safe and supported? Write an essay to elaborate your thoughts; your response should be no more than 300 words.
